Larvotto

Monaco-Ville Fontvieille La Rousse Saint-Roman Larvotto Moneghetti Jardin Exotique Port Monte-Carlo Mareterra

Initially a saltwater marsh, the coastal strip on the east of the Principality had only two inhabitants at the end of the 17th century. The Portier median (35,000 sqm) was constructed in 1961 on the west side of the current beach. This was followed by the creation of the Larvotto median in 1963 (54,000 sqm), which expanded the Principality's surface area by 10%, and finally, the artificial beach.

Today, this area is one of the most popular in Monaco, offering breathtaking views of the sea, numerous restaurants, luxury hotels, bars, and nightclubs, making it an ideal leisure destination for tourists. Residents also enjoy a vibrant cultural scene with exhibitions, concerts, and ballets at the Grimaldi Forum, Villa Sauber, and Rainier III Auditorium. The Japanese Garden, designed by award-winning landscape architect Yasuo Beppu and created in accordance with the strictest principles of Zen design, is a tranquil oasis transporting visitors to the land of the rising sun.

In July 2021, H.S.H Prince Albert II unveiled the newly redesigned esplanade and beach by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano, further enhancing the district’s allure and appeal.
